One of the most important aspects that contribute to your success or failure is your mindset. And this isn’t only in what comes to business but in regards to everything you do in your life. One of the things that tend to go wrong when someone decides to start their own online business is that they miss the step of changing their midst from employee to employer. So, in order to prevent this ever happens to you, here are 5 things you need to think differently:
#1 You are the one responsible for all the decisions:
When you are starting your first online business, you will make bad decisions. You will make mistakes. It just can’t be any other way. After all, you’re learning while you’re doing it And no matter how many successful small business owners you have seen and know, you’re the one making your own path. When it’s time to make a big decision, all you need to do is to think about the pros and cons about each different scenario and go with the best one. No matter what happens, you need to take the responsibility of what happens.
#2 You need to combine both short and long-term visions:
When you were an employee, all you needed to do was to make sure your tasks were completed on the deadline. However, now that you are the employer, you need to make sure that your employees get their tasks done on time in order to meet the longer-term goals. These need to be always present or you will lose focus on what’s more important.
#3 Learning is an ongoing process:
You’ll notice that when you become an employer, you will need to keep learning all the time. While when you were an employee you had specific tasks and a job description, as an employer you will have to learn new skills. From using unfamiliar technology to marketing your ideas, from getting investors on board to motivate your employees, among so many others.
#4 Numbers never lie:
When you are an employer, and in case you don’t like numbers, you will need to learn to love them. After all, the numbers are the ones that will tell you if you’re on a good path or on a bad one if you’re headed for success or for failure.
#5 Be objective:
Some new employers think that loving their business and what they do is the most important thing. There’s no doubt that when you love what you do it can be a strong motivator. However, even more than loving your business is to be objective about it. If you don’t face the reality, you may end up a month and don’t have the money to pay to your employees. When you are the employer, you need to work in the business and not on the business.
While your mindset won’t change overnight especially if you were an employee for many years, it will start to change when you see yourself dealing with new challenges. All these 5 things can help you change your mindset from an employee to an employer. However, you need to commit yourself to do it.
